It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Black, Sr., age 76, of Canton, Ohio, who passed away peacefully in the early morning of December, 26th, 2024 from complications after contracting the West Nile Virus in October.  Mike was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and friend whose impact on those around him will never be forgotten.  Mike, a 1966 graduate of Lincoln H.S. and member of the Lincoln Alumni Association, retired from the Timken Company in 2010.  He was inducted into the Greater Stark County Amateur Sports Fumbleball Association Hall of Fame in 1990 and into the Stark County Slow-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 2023.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Black, Special Aunt Bernice Carnes, his maternal grandparents Guy and Catherine Carnes and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Clyde and Betty Roberts.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Roberts) Black to whom he was married for 48 years; sons, Mike Black Jr., Andy (Margot) Black, Evan Black and daughter Corey Hashman; grandchildren Bo and Reide Black, Kaitlynn Black and Cecelia Black; sister Judith Esmont and brother Barry (Marsha) Black and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Formet- Clevenger and Gordon Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm followed by a celebration of Mike's life.
