Obituary

Michael J. Zetts Age 94, of Canton, passed away Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital. He was born in Drifting, PA, a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Fedor) Zetts, and had been a Canton resident 19 years. Mike was a 1937 graduate of Akron Central High School. He retired in 1981 from Goodyear Aerospace, after over 40 years service, where he was a machinist. He also was a self-employed dental technician. Mike was a devout catholic and was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, and previously was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Akron. He was a multi-talented person, and was well known as a master wood carver, and among some of his carvings was the Altar and intricate work and sign above the doors at St. Severns Catholic Church in Drifting, PA, also furniture, lamps, a carousel, and knickknacks. Mike also was a gemologist and poet, made over 3000 Rosaries, played many instruments, including the violin, organ, concertina, and harmonica. He made three violins which are still in the family. He enjoyed making up games and inventing things, and held several patents. Mike and his wife were avid ballroom dancers, and he was an accomplished story teller and jokester. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Preceded in death by his first wife, Loraine, in 1981, five brothers and three sisters. Survived by his wife, Glenna Jean Zetts; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Scheu, of Canton, and Nancy and Hobe Nestor, of North Canton; one son, Paul Zetts, of Portage Lakes, OH; a special daughter, Dorothy Piurkowsky, of Torrence, CA; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, eight step-children, and 17 step-grand-children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Keck as Celebrant. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron with Military Honors. Friends may call Wed. 6-8 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home.
