Obituary

CLASSIFIED OBITUARY FOR THUR. Save room for pict. MARY (CASTELLUCCI) PIOVANELLI, age 87, of Waynesburg, beloved sister, aunt and sister-in-law, passed away suddenly late Tues. evening in the emergency room at Aultman Hospital in Canton. She was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Oneida, OH, the eldest child of the late James and Lelia Castellucci. Mary was raised in Malvern, Ohio and was a 1939 graduate of Malvern High School. She married her wartime sweetheart, the late James (Geno) Piovanelli in 1947, a loving marriage that lasted over 57 years. A homemaker, she also retired from the former Colton Hardware in Waynesburg. She enjoyed shopping and attending weekly crafts with her friends in Waynesburg. However, more than anything else, Mary was a devoted wife and mother, caring for her husband during his various illnesses and especially her handicapped son throughout his entire life. Her love for the "two men" in her life knew no bounds, and it was a gift she willingly shared with all of her family. Gentle by nature, she always had a warm smile and friendly manner with all who knew her. Mary is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Castellucci, of Malvern; six nephews and five nieces; many great nephews and nieces; brother-in-law Steve Stropki of Canton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Caryl Piovanelli of Portland, Oregon; two aunts, Helen DePalmo of Canton and Freda DePalmo of Tallmadge; special friends Joyce and Bob Huffman and Mike and Darlene Raddish; her "adopted" niece Irene Kadis; and dear neighbors Dave and Sharon Halley, who were always there whenever she needed any help of any kind. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son Jimmie, one of God's special children, in 2008; her brother Charles in 1945, who was killed in action in the Pacific theater during World War II; and several brothers-in laws and sisters-in-laws. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Malvern with Fr. Victor Cinson as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. Although she encountered many difficulties and setbacks throughout her life, Mary's courage and perseverance will always remain as shining examples of how life should be lived.
