CLASSIFIED OBITUARY FOR TUESDAY WITH PICTURE
MARY E. "BETTY" PEPPARD,
Age 83, of Canton, passed away Sat. morning in Affinity Medical Center in Massillon. Born in St. Petersburg, FL, a daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Wiley Kerby, she had been a Canton resident for over 50 years. Betty was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Brookside Country Club and a lifelong member of Fairlawn Country Club. She graduated from our Lady of the Elms, Barry University and the University of Akron. Betty was an accomplished amateur golfer and was an individual co-medalist at the 1950 Women's National Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. She played in four LPGA events, won 13 WADGA Titles and two WOSGA Titles. Betty was a tireless advocate of golf and volunteered as a USGA rules official for close to twenty years. She officiated at everything from the Girl's Junior State to the Women's U.S. Open. Betty loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Donald Peppard, Sr., on Oct. 28, 2012. Survived by two daughters, Mary Peppard, of Chicago, and Patty Peppard, of Santa Monica, CA; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Donny Peppard, of Charlottesville, VA, Tom Peppard, of Canton, and David and Joanne Peppard, of Canton; one sister, Patricia Calet, of Akron; and two grandchildren, Penn and D.A. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Fri. at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. Don King as Celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Thur. from 5-8 p.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home, and on Fri. family and friends will meet at St. Michael's from 10-11 a.m. before the Mass.
