Obituary

Mary E Gennett Age 96, of Canton, passed away and went to "her home" in Heaven on Wed., Sept. 28, 2011. She was born on October 6, 1914 in Canton, OH to her late Italian immigrant parents, John and Adele (Paesano) Saccucci. Mary was a life-long Catholic and faithful member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, a former member of Little Flower Catholic Church, the Miraculous Medal Society, and several church choirs. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Arthur Gennett, on Feb. 4, 2001, her beloved sisters, Anna Groner, Rose Francis, Lena Campanelli, Minnie Simile, and brothers Earl and Warren Saccucci. She is survived by her two sisters, Helen Pryse of Canton and Gloria Fakult of Painesville and sisters-in-law, Margaret Santilli, and Lil Gennett. Mary is survived by five generations of family who all loved and cherished her dearly and will always and greatly miss her, two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and William Bresson of North Canton, Susan and James Looman of North Canton, and her son and his wife, Dr. Nicholas and Ann Gennett of Salisbury, NC. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Gina (Greg) Wagner, Greg (Kathleen) Bresson, Michael (Erin) Gennett, Sara (Markham) Cronin, Jennifer (Dale) Kidd, Jason (Lisa) Looman, Amanda (JR) Reindel, Josh (Breigh) Looman; 19 great-grandchildren, Megan (Pete) Znidarsic, Jessica, Erica, and Devon Wagner, Erin, Reed, and Blair Bresson, Jacob and Nathan Looman, Tyler, Emma, and Katelyn Reindel, Jerry and Jack Gennett, Alec, Austin, and Tommy Lopez, Joey and Nicole Kidd; one great-great-granddaughter, Mckayla Znidarsic, and many loving nieces and nephews. Throughout her life Mary's love for her family and their lives were her top priority. She babysat for several generations of her family, and was always interested in knowing what was going on in their lives. She would prepare her famous huge Italian Sunday dinners, with her special sauce and meatballs, homemade cream puffs, and outstanding pies for her family and friends gathered at her home every week. When she was five years old, her mother taught her how to crochet and she continued crocheting for another 90 years. She loved to make beautiful afghans for every family member and close friends, for church raffles, and later as lap robes in nursing homes. In her younger years she was also a avid bowler in several bowling leagues and was able to bowl a perfect game. She had a passion and talent for growing hundreds of flowers in her huge flower beds, belonged to several garden clubs, and won blue ribbons for her beautiful floral arrangements. Mary's love for singing continued her whole life, knowing every word to all the old favorite songs and was able to instantly harmonize to them. For many years she belonged to the Harmony Makers, a choir that would bring joy to area nursing homes. Mary's family wants to thank the entire caring and loving staff of Bethany Nursing Home, John and Dr. Betsy Baum and family, two of her many earthly angels, Nancy Parks and Sann Brown, and Crossroads Hospice. A Mass of the Christian burial will be held on Sat. at 9 a.m. in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Tom Bishop as Celebrant, her source of spiritual support and love. Family and friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery on Cleveland Avenue.
