Obituary

MARY MARGURITE BARNES Mary Margurite Barnes, age 96, fought and lost a short and a courageous battle to recent severe health issues on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Mary Margurite had three great loves in her life; her family, her family, and her family. Mary was born on May 21, 1915 to the late Elmer William Flick and Clara Emma (Berger) (Flick) Koenig in Indianapolis, Indiana. However, Mary considered her real father to be her step-father William Koenig. Mary attended Emerich Manual Training High School in Indianapolis until she started working at the Real Silk Hosiery Mill. She participated in and won a local Beauty Contest sponsored by the Real Silk Hosiery Contest. She was offered an opportunity to enter into the Miss America Pageant, however, she declined the invitation. On April 2, 1940, Mary Margurite married Hollis O. Barnes, whom she loved to her last breath. He passed away on January 18, 2001. During World War II Mary worked in manufacturing supporting our country's war effort. If she was able she followed the stateside military training schedule of Hollis by working in local manufacturing jobs so that she could be near him. After World War II Mary Margurite and Hollis moved a number of times until they landed in Canton, Ohio in 1958 where she stayed until her death. She retired from Appalachian Exploration, an oil exploratory company, in 1971. Mary was a member, and served a few terms as president, of a local The Ohio State University Mother's Club. She was also a member of a local Eastern Star organization. Mary Margurite also served in many positions at the former Christ United Methodist Church in her almost 50 years of membership. She was recently a member of The Church of the Lakes. Mary is survived by many who loved her, cherished her, will celebrate her life, and will mourn her. Those who are included are children: a son, Stephen H. Barnes along with his wife Patricia and their children Hannah, Joshua and Krisztina; a daughter, MaryAnn Barnes and her daughter Shaunte' Hurley; a son, John Paul Barnes along with his wife Lisa and their daughters Emily, Sarah and Kendra and; a son, David L.
