Obituary

Martie V. Sherrard Age 94, of Canton, passed away Sat., Jan. 14, 2012, in Green Meadows Health & Wellness Center. She was born in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late Samuel and Gladys (Prunty) Bowser, and had been a Canton resident most of her life. Martie was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and was a member of Moreland Christian Church. She loved her cats and dogs, most of whom were strays taking up residence on and under the deck, much to the delight of her grandchildren and the dismay of her children. Martie loved books, enjoyed quilting, making beautiful quilts for her family. She liked crocheting and working in her flower garden. Most of all she loved being around her family. Martie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a friend to anyone in need. She was well known for her humor, her beautiful smile and wonderful stories. Preceded in death by her husbands, Chauncey Shawver and Robert Sherrard, Sr., a granddaughter and grandson, Elisabeth and Michael Sherrard, Jr., daughter-in-law, Robin Sherrard, son-in-law, Patrick Jones, sister, Jenny Miller, and brothers, Samuel and Kermit Bowser. Survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and Joseph Lavin, of Columbus, OH, Judy Jones, of North Canton, and Nancy and Donald Horne, of East Canton; four sons and daughters-in-law, Chauncey and Diana Shawver, Jr., of Canton, Robert and Diana Sherrard, Jr., of Minerva, Samuel and Faye Sherrard, of Canton, and Michael Sherrard, Sr. and Kimberly Gates, of Louisville; a half sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Ken Longo, of Mentor, OH; a half brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Gloria Bowser, of Florida; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held Wed. at 10:30 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Minister Gene Carter officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. and Wed. one hour before the service. Those who wish may make contributions in Martie's memory to the Stark County Humane Society, PO Box 7077, Canton, OH 44705.
