Martha A. "Marty" Turner
Age 100, of Canton, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017. She was born August 21, 1916, in Struthers, OH, a daughter of the late Frank and Sarah (Smith) Einsel, and had been a Canton resident since 1940. Marty was a graduate of Struthers High School and attended Mount Union College and Kent State University. She retired in 1981 from Canton City Schools where she was a kindergarten and second grade teacher at Stark and Belle Stone Elementary Schools. She was an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church for 75 years. Marty was an avid reader all her life, and was the "story lady" to children, and enjoyed giving book reviews to adults. She loved flowers and belonged to the Suburban Garden Club until her death. Other hobbies were counted cross-stitch, adult coloring, watching Buckeyes football, the Cleveland Indians, and local high school football. Marty really enjoyed going out to lunch with her girl friends and talking to them on the phone. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 53 years, Kenneth L. Turner, on Nov. 18, 1993, and a grandson, Douglas Turner. Marty and Ken would have been married 77 years on June 6th. She is survived by her beloved children, Diane (David) Boswell, Dr. Kenneth (Dr. Karen) Turner, Donald (Connie) Turner, David Turner, and Dennis (Beckie) Turner; 12 grandchildren 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Pastor Rod Geiger, of Perry Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 10-11 a.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marty's memory may be made to Calvary Presbyterian Church, 237 W.
