Obituary

MARTHA A. CARLING,

Age 88, of Mineral City, passed away Fri., Feb. 14, 2014, in Rose Lane Health Center.  Born in Cleveland, a daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Rennard) Angel, she had been a resident of the Sandyville area since 1946, previously residing in New Philadelphia.  Martha was a 1944 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, a member of Magnolia Baptist Temple, and retired in 1991 from the Ohio Historical Society at Zoar Village after 19 years service where she was a guide.  It is fitting that Martha passed away on Valentine's Day because her life was filled with love.  She loved her family and her family of friends.  She loved birds and flowers and music.  Martha loved to play the organ, sing, paint and play games with her friends.  She loved to write and was very proud that one of her books was published: "A Jade Goddess called Bossie."  She loved to make people happy and laugh and sing.  Martha will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.  Preceded in death by her husband, Jack Carling, on Oct. 27, 2009, her brother, Robert Angel and her granddaughter, Christine Recknor.  Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Norman Recknor, of Ocala, FL, and Anna and Wayne Slepecky, of Medina, OH; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry and Claudette Carling, of Massillon, and Gary Carling; and eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held Sat. at 2 p.m. in Rose Lane Health Center with Rev. Chuck Federkan  officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Martha's family would like to thank the staff, residents and administration at Rose Lane Health Center for their care and affection for Martha over the years.  She was happy there and had the opportunity to serve others, which she loved.  A special thank you to Anne and Gracie and Martha's "Bingo Gang" who brought her so much joy.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.   Condolences may be left at www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
