Marjorie A. Gortney

Age 90, of Canton, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.  She was born August 29, 1931 in North Industry, OH, a daughter of the late Vernon and Audrey (Bennett) Hockenberry, and was a life resident of the Canton area.  Marjorie was a 1950 graduate of Canton South High School.  She had helped her son at Brian's Automotive as bookkeeper for over 25 years, and also helped her husband in the automotive parts business for several years.  She was a former long-time member of the Canton Baptist Temple.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Evelyn Gearhart, Thelma Stitz, and Charles and Russell Hockenberry and her sister-in-law, Mary Hockenberry.  She is survived by her husband, George L. Gortney, with whom she celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on March 11th; one daughter and one son, Brenda and Bert Johnson, and Brian and Sue Gortney; three grandchildren, Brian Gortney II, Layla Kovacevic and Athena Kovacevic.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Melscheimer Cemetery with Brother Tim Carlson officiating.  There will be no visitation.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
