Marilyn A. (Slomsky) Glyder
Age 77, of Canton, passed away Monday afternoon in Life Care Center of Medina, after a five month battle with cancer. Known for her strength and sense of humor, she retained both of these qualities into her final days. She was born in Canton, a daughter of the late James and Cora Sponhour Slomsky and her step-father, Howard Bowe, and was a life resident. Marilyn was a 1950 graduate of McKinley High School. She had been employed by Ironrock, Mercy Medical Center, Arrowhead Country Club, and Kobacher's, but her main emphasis was as a mother. Marilyn was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, member and Past Pres. of both the Auxiliary of Eagles #141 and the local chapter of the AARP, also a member of the Democratic Women's Club, and her card club of over 50 years. She was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed playing poker, euchre and bingo, but especially loved family get-togethers. Marilyn was a fun-loving person with a warm heart and caring nature. Her friendly personality and genuine character created a lasting impression. Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Donald J. Glyder, Sr., on Aug. 31, 1993, and a sister, Delores Strader. She leaves to cherish her memory her five loving children, each of whom she was extremely proud: four daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Mark Cookson, Sandra and Nick Costello, Janie and Joe Pavlek, all of Canton, and Karen and Gary Watts-Gardner, of Dellroy; her son, Donald J. Glyder, Jr., of Canton; one brother, James "Art" Slomsky, of Canton; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, to whom she was known as "Grammie", Damey (Brian) Heckman and their children, Brian, Brandon, and Aubrey; Abbey Hartman and her children, Gage and Gavin; Audrey (Tim) Roudebush and their children, Jarrod, Jacob, and Jaydon; Trisha (Billy) Megarry and their children Emily and Thomas; Rodney (Kazumi) Ross and their son, Caleb; Dana (Johnny) Carbenia and their children, Katelin, Andrew, Kylee, and Mia; Mario Costello; Rachel (Donald) Moriconi and their children Kirston and Marissa; Anthony (Krissy) Watts; Zachery Watts; Maja, Marco, and Marcello Pavlek; and Marilyn's beloved dog, Benji. Services will be held Sat. at 10:30 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Fr. Ronald Klingler officiating. Interment in West Lawn Cemetery.
