Margaret “Margo” Daniels,

of Louisville, Ohio, passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones at St. Joseph’s Senior Living on September 9, 2026. She was 87 years old. Margaret Fredrica Datwyler was born in Reader, West Virginia on April 14, 1939 to Emil and Freda Datwyler. Margo grew up in Reader until the family moved to Canton, Ohio in the 1950s. After graduating from McKinley High School, Margo attended the Mercy School of Nursing. After graduating from Mercy with her nursing degree, Margo was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant and was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base from 1961 to 1963. After leaving the Air Force in 1963, Margo returned to Canton and continued her nursing career for over four decades at several Stark County Hospitals. The longest portion of Margo’s career was spent at Doctors Hospital in Massillon where she worked many years as an evening nursing coordinator. Many of the nurses Margo worked alongside came to call her “Mom”. Margo was first married in 1962 to Neal Peterson until his untimely death in 1964. Together Margo and Neal had a son, Bryan. In 1971, Margo married Richard Baily Daniels. Together they had a son, Aaron. They were married for 45 years until Richard’s death in 2016. Margo is survived by her son, Bryan Peterson and his wife Carrie, and her son Aaron Daniels and his wife Laura. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Ainsley, Jeffrey, and Cutter, her two sisters, Michaela “Mikie” McLaughlin and Nancy Auricchio, both with whom she had an incredibly close bond. Margo’s two brothers, Jim Datwyler and Frank Datwyler preceded her in death as well as baby sister Ida. Margo had been a resident at St. Joseph’s Senior Living in Louisville since 2017. She made many friends and acquaintances during her time living at St. Joe’s. Whenever the weather cooperated, Margo enjoyed getting outside for her daily walks around the campus, taking time to sit and chat with friends, old and new. She absolutely loved afternoon drives out into the countryside with loved ones. For many years, Margo was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Canton, where she served as a Stephen Minister, and in her later years she was a member at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Time with family and friends brought Margo joy. She loved hearing stories, reminiscing about past times, and just keeping up with the daily lives of those close to her. She loved mystery novels, cats, gardening, bird watching, and most of all her car rides. A memorial worship service to celebrate Margo’s life will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11:00am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2551 55th St. NE, Canton, OH 44721. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center in the church following the service. As per Margo’s wishes, a private cremation will have preceded the memorial service. Cremation services have been entrusted to Gordon Funeral Home, Inc. Margo’s family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s who took such wonderful care of Margo during her nine years there as a resident and to the staff of Crossroads Hospice who assisted Margo and family during her final days. The next time you find yourself out and about on a leisurely drive on a sunny day, with no agenda, and you just happen to quietly say to yourself, “I like car rides”, just smile and think of Margo because she would be enjoying it right along with you.
