Madge L. Jett

Age 83, of Canton, the best mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022.  She was born August 22, 1939 in Walton, WV, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Elva (Smith) Armstead, and had been a resident of the East Sparta/Canton area since 1969.  Madge was the sweetest, kindest, and loving person, and loved everyone, and everyone loved her.  She was Granny to everyone, even if they weren't hers.  She was proud of her family and worried about everybody.  She was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple and loved Gospel Music.  Madge enjoyed all her grandbabies.  Every Saturday morning she cooked a big breakfast for anyone who could be there.  For her children's birthday gift she would make their favorite pie or cake and cook their favorite meal.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jimmie L. Jett on Jan. 11, 2007, a son, James Jett, granddaughter, Lisa Jett, great-grandson, Jacob Jett, three sisters and three brothers, Wanda, Tharon, Jeannie, Michael, Otis, and Leo.  Madge is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Slates, two sons, Kenneth Jett and Wayne and Jeanie Jett; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, including two grandchildren whom she had custody of from birth and raised them, Jenny Gabrys and James Jett II; one sister, Barbara (Leahmon) Smith and one brother, Stevie (Barb) Armstead.
