Leila A. Karns Age 99, of North Canton, passed away Tuesday afternoon in Stone Crossing of Canton. She was born in Beallsville, Monroe County, OH, a daughter of the late John William and Lucinda Morris Swearengin, and came to North Canton in 1927. Leila was a 1929 graduate of North Canton High School. She worked at the Hoover Co. until her marriage. When her children became of college age, she went back to work at the former Citizens Savings Bank. She retired from there in 1974, as Savings Officer and Manager of the New Accounts Dept., after 35 years service to her customers. She had been a member of the former Calvary United Methodist Church, where she had served as Youth Director and as Assistant Sunday school teacher, and now was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of North Canton. Leila also belonged to the local Gideons Auxiliary and served as State Auxiliary Secretary as well as local Auxiliary President. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Paul W. Karns, on April 26, 2001, an infant son, William Lee Karns, two granddaughters, Sally and Jill Hauff, one sister, Mary Engelbach, five brothers, Harry, Warren, Marion, Jack, and Lester Swearengin, and a son-in-law, Anthony Polosky. Survived by five daughters and four sons-in-law, Jean and William Hauff, of Columbus, OH, Cindy and Victor Polosky, of Canton, Ann Polosky, Sara and Earl Boyle, and Marsha and Larry Calder, all of North Canton; 12 grandsons, two granddaughters, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Richards officiating. Interment in Warstler Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 5-7 p.m. and Friday 9-10 a.m. before the service.
