LaFern Elkins

Age 85, of Waynesburg, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024.  She was born May 20, 1938 in Davy, WV, a daughter of the late Bryant and Tennessee "Tina"(Rakes) Fanning, and was a resident of this area most of her life.  LaFern was a 1956 graduate of Bolivar High School, and was retired from the Stark County Community Action Center, after 22 years' service.  LaFern loved spending time with family and grandchildren, and going to the grandchildren's ballgames and activities.  She was a member of Waynesburg Freewill Baptist Church but also enjoyed going to several other churches with her family. She loved the outdoors and especially going fishing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Farley Elkins, Sr., on Nov. 29, 2000, a son, Kim Elkins, and one brother, Alfred Fanning.  LaFern is survived by a daughter and two sons, Lyn "Sue" Elkins, Farley "Butch" (Patti) Elkins, Jr., and Chris (Yolanda) Elkins; Bob Wallace; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, Ashley (Kenny) Perrin, and their children, Kylan and Khloe, Amy (Judd) Lutz, and their children, Zoe, Ivy, Stryker, and Gigi LaFern, Chris (Rachel) Elkins, Jr., and their children, Addison and Alyssa; Ryan (Mallory) Elkins, and their children, Luke and Amelia, Eric (Mandy) Elkins, and their children, Everest and Atlas; one sister and two brothers, Rita Putt, Roger (Linda) Fanning, and Michael "Mick" (Tammy) Fanning.

Services will be held Sat., March 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Benjamin George officiating.  Friends may call Friday 5-7 p.m.  and Sat. 10-11 a.m. before the service.
