Junior R. Marker Age 86, of North Canton, passed over Friday evening, June 5, 2009, in his home surrounded by his loving family. JR was born near Louisville, a son of the late Theodore and Mable (Miller) Marker, and was a lifelong resident of Stark County. He was a 1941 graduate of Louisville High School. JR retired in 1982 from Ohio Bell Telephone, after 41 years service, as Manager of Motor Vehicles for Northeast Ohio. He was a member of Toast Masters, Canton American Legion Post #44, the Telephone Pioneers, and North Canton Eagles. JR had been an advisor to Junior Achievement for five years. He enjoyed many years of travel and dancing with the Rolling Squares, a square dance club. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre, with the Army Signal Corps 82nd Signal Battalion. He was reactivated during the Korean Conflict with the 836th Signal Radio Relay Company. He also was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Donald Marker and Geraldine "Gerry" Swartz. Survived by his wife, Gloria M. (Newberry) Marker, with whom he would have celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniverary on Oct. 10th; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ted and Armonde Marker, of Deer Park, TX, Todd and Christie Marker, of Delaware, OH, and Hal Marker, of North Canton; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Faye Brower, of Canton, Wanda and Allen Frease, of North Canton, and Shirley Kaplan, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Fr. Christopher Henyk officiating.
