IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce
Guilliam
June 4, 1941 – October 2, 2025
Joyce Ann Guilliam,
age 84, went home to be with Jesus on October 2, 2025. Born on June 4, 1941, to Ernest and Frances (Seitter) McConnell in the family farm home in Richmond, Ohio, Joyce carried the lessons of her upbringing throughout her life. After graduating from Mount Union College in 1963 with a BS in Elementary Education, she remained an active and proud member of the Mount Union University alumni. A woman of deep faith, Joyce was an active and devoted member of Dueber United Methodist Church in Canton, Ohio, for over four decades.
For more than 40 years, Joyce was a fixture in the Canton City Schools as a dedicated substitute teacher. Her commitment to education was boundless; she accepted assignments for every class imaginable—from kindergarten to auto body. Her work didn't end with the school day; for many years, she taught every day and spent her evenings tutoring individuals working toward their GED at the Stark County Jail.
Joyce had a remarkable gift for connection; she truly never knew a stranger and seemed to know people wherever she went. Her home reflected her welcoming spirit, known for always being open and welcoming no matter the time or hour. Guests will forever remember her renowned stove-popped buttery popcorn and famous sweet tea. She was always up for a competitive round of a card game, particularly Rook or Euchre.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Richard Leroy Guilliam, brother and sister-in law, David and Rose McConnell, brother Kenneth McConnell and sister, Donna Hill.
She is survived by her loving children, Trish (Duane) Stahl, Karen (Greg) Crean, and Todd (Laura) Guilliam, and her sister-in-law, Linda McConell, and her brother-in-law, Scott Hill. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Zachary (Abbey), Carly, Logan Stahl, Courtney, Delaney, Kennedy Crean, Elyssa and Jordan Zablo, Christian and Jake Guilliam. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Ezra and Preston Stahl. Joyce's memory will be cherished as one of tireless service, and unmatched hospitality.
Services will be held Wed. at 11am in Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Wed. one hour before the service, from 10-11am, in the funeral home. Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
