Josephine "Jo" Hurd

Age 84, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.  She was born in Wytheville, VA, on February 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle (Newton) Scott Wells, and moved to Canton in 1951 from Kimball, WV.  She was a 1950 graduate of Kimball High School. Jo retired in 1997 from The Hoover Co., after 27 years service, where she worked on the assembly line.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James "Pete" Hurd, on March 1, 2008, brothers, James Wells and Alfred Scott, sister, Alfreda Wallace, sister-in-law, Laura Scott, brother-in-law, Robert Gerald Heard, and granddaughter, Aniecia Williams.  She is survived by her son, Steve (Darlene) Hurd, of Canton, daughters, Allison (Pete) Goshay, of Perry Township, Cheryl Blunt, of the home, and Robin (Mike) Williams, of Greensboro, NC, step-daughter Cathy Dow, of New Jersey; brothers, Charles (Hattie) Wells, of Toledo, OH and William (Jeanette ) Scott, of Farmers Branch, TX; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Jo enjoyed working in the yard, playing cards, "the twins", and spending time with her family.  Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Antioch Baptist Church, 1844 Ira Turpin Way NE, Canton, OH 44705, with Rev. Wallace Luke officiating.  Friends may call Sunday 5-7 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home and Monday at the church from 10-11 a.m. before the service. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
