Jonathan A. Canton

Age 32, of Massillon, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024.  He was born November 12, 1991 in Canton, a son of John and Bobbie (Tedrick) Canton, and was raised in Mineral City.  He was a 2010 graduate of Sandy Valley High School and presently worked at Superior Dairy as a fabricator/welder.

His hobbies included following and cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, and occasionally the Cleveland Browns, when he wasn't mad at them.  He enjoyed golfing with his buddies.  Occasionally he would cause a little mayhem and orneriness with those friends, who could dish it out as well as take it.  Though Jon was quiet, he had a very funny side to him that would make people laugh.  He loved the tranquility and peace of a back yard fire, where he would see all kinds or wildlife, deer, fox and much more.  He just loved the animals.

He was preceded in death by his grandpas, Robert Tedrick and Jack Canton, and grandmother, Debbie Canton.  Jon is survived by his loving family, parents John and Bobbie Canton, sisters Samantha and Sarah Canton, two nieces, who made him smile, Taylor Soehnlen and Morrigan Crislip, his grandmothers, Vivian Tedrick and Carolyn Smith, and many other loving aunts and uncles, and especially his beloved cat, Shadow.

Unbeknownst to us, Jon carried a great deal of sorrow in his heart that just got too much to bear and he took his own life.  We as a family are begging anyone who is finding life to be too heavy and unbearable, to please reach out to someone.  Even five minutes of talking it through can bring things back into perspective.  If you are considering suicide, please call or text the Suicide & Crisis hotline at 988.

For the services Tuesday, we ask everyone to be comfortable and wear your OSU clothes and gear.  Jon would love it.
