Obituary

Johnnie W. Jones

Age 82, of Canton, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.  He was born April 8, 1934 in Canton, a son of the late Stewart and Nova (Marsh) Jones, and was a life resident.  He was a graduate of McKinley High School.  Johnnie retired in 1994, after 43 years' service, from Superior Dairy, where he worked in the Ice Cream Dept.  At the same time, he and his wife had been cooking the meals at the Canton Masonic Temple for over 30 years.  He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America and had worked with special needs children with B.S.A.  Johnnie had many Masonic affiliations including: a 48 year member of Trinity Lodge #710 F. & A.M., which he served as Master three times, and was an Honorary Member of Canton Lodge #60 F. & A.M.; a 40 year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, and received the Meritorious Service Award on June 1, 2004; all York Rite Bodies; Nazir Grotto and served as Monarch three times, and also El Rey Grotto in Elyria; Tadmor Temple; Legacy Chapter #596, Order of Eastern Star (formerly Delta Chapter #539, O.E.S.) which he served as Worthy Patron eight times; White Shrine of Jerusalem; and True Kindred in Cleveland.  Johnnie served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Canton American Legion Post #44, and was in the process of shortly becoming a member of the Sons of The American Revolution.  He is survived by his wife, Carol J. Jones, with whom he celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary on August 16, 2016; one daughter Lora (Matt) Givler, of North Canton; one son, Daniel Walker, of Elyria; a grandson, Trevor (Jodi) Sproul, and their daughter, Caitlyn, Johnnie's great granddaughter, who was the apple of his eye, and he was so happy she was born on his birthday, April 8th; one sister, Bonnie (Robert) Dovidio, of North Canton, and one brother, Ronald (Jean) Jones, of Navarre; and his beloved dog, Buddy.  A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 3 p.m. in John Knox Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating.  Friends may call Sunday 1-3 p.m. before the service.  Trinity Lodge #710 will hold Masonic Services Sunday at 2:45 p.m.  Interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Johnnie's memory may be made to the Children's Dyslexia Center, c/o The Canton Masonic Temple, 836 Market Ave. N., Canton, OH 44702, or Mercy Medical Center Hospice, 7568 Whipple Ave. NW, North Canton, OH 44720.  The family wishes to express their appreciation and thank the nurses and staff of Mercy Medical Center and Mercy Hospice and his doctor, Dr. Alan Rudick, for the love and care they gave to Johnnie.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
