IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Henry
Stone
January 3, 1939 – September 14, 2024
John Henry Stone,
passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2024. John was born on January 3, 1939 to Henry and Ruby (Morton) Stone in Lizemores, WV and had 6 siblings. He attended Clay County High School where he met his sweetheart Sharon Lee Davis and the two graduated together in 1959, then married June 27th that same year. In their 65+ years together family was their pride, joy and passion.
The family started with daughter Patti (Rich) Rohrer, then son William John Stone, their granddaughters Jennifer (Tracy) Townsend and Stefanie Stone, and grandsons Michael (Lexi) Stone and Billy (Tia) Stone, then great grandchildren Garrett and Makenna Stoller and Brayden and Johnathan Booker. Also survived by his mother-in-law, Agnes Davis. During the decades of employment John worked hard for O. D. Holk Construction, Reiter Dairy and dedicated over 25 years at UPS, from which he retired in 1994. At retirement they purchased over 90 acres in Carrollton and built a beautiful homestead. This is where he fenced pasture for adopted mustangs, had horses for grandkids, glorious gardens and even supported grandsons building their own dirt bike track. John enjoyed cars and kept them in pristine condition. He shared with his family the hobby of stock car racing and drove many miles following our #7 and #331 to any and all tracks they attended. He kept a meticulous appearance in his well shined cowboy boots, creased wranglers, and Stetson hat. John had the gift for gab and never met a stranger. He told great stories of ornery youth, listened with kindness, and would crack a joke when necessary. Keeping his family together was his main goal and he showered his love on us with trips and our times spent together. John supported our needs and interests with unconditional love. He instilled strong work ethic, showed perseverance, compassion and growth. He would tell us you have got to leave something better than the way you found it and that is just what he did. The greatest legacy left is his wisdom and the fierce love John had for his family. His love will carry on in us all, you can bet on that one ... just mark 'er down.
