John O. Slack

Age 79, of Sandyville, passed away Wed. Dec. 27, 2017, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.  He was born Aug. 26, 1938 in Syracuse, OH, a son of the late John and Ada (Blake) Slack, and resided in Sandyville 48 years.  John retired in 2006 from Sandy Valley Local Schools where he was a bus driver.  Previously he worked at the former Irwin Steel Co. for 20 years.  He was a member of Sandyville United Methodist Church, the Mineral City Historical Society, and Huff Run Society.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Vivian Slack, on June 16, 2014, and three brothers, Earl Watkins, Roger and Gene Slack.  He is survived by one daughter and two sons, Linda and Shawn Burgess, John Slack III, and Don and Carol Slack; 10 grandchildren and eight grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Katherine and Harley Johnson, Lela Masters, and Robert and Priscilla Slack.  A graveside service will be held Wed. at 10:30 a.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. in Sandyville United Methodist Church with Pastor Carl Orphanides officiating.  There will be no calling hours.  Condolences may be sent to: gordonfuneralhome.com
