Jewell H. Gibson
Age 89, of North Canton, formerly of Glendale, OH, was called home to her Lord Sat. evening, September 3, 2011 in St. Luke Lutheran Home in North Canton. She was born May 21, 1922 in Wewoka, OK, a daughter of the late Wade and Ivory Ann Bruner Hampton, and she spent her early years in Okmulgee, OK. Jewell was a graduate of West Virginia University in May of 1944 with a B.S. in Biology and where she was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She married Dr. Charles W. Gibson in January of 1944. They moved to Cincinnati, OH in the early 1950's, where after a short stint as an elementary school teacher in the Cincinnati Parochial Schools and Princeton City Schools, she refocused her life becoming a mother and homemaker for her four children. Jewell also became an excellent oil and pastel artist known throughout the Cincinnati area for her talents. Along with a fierce loving dedication for her family, she was reknown for her sense of humor. She was a member of Mt. Zion Church in Woodlawn, OH. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Stephen and Dana Gibson, a grandson, Malik Gibson, brother, Archille, and sisters, Gwendolyn, Inez, and Edna. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles G. and Gaye Gibson, of North Canton, and Dr. Reginald and Jeanene Gibson, of Cincinnati; grandchildren Shelly, Regina, Crystal, Jasai, and Darian, great-grandchildren, Chris, Ryan, and Kaniya, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A graveside service for family and friends will be held Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at 1 p.m. in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati with Pastor Eddie Martin officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jewell's memory may be made to your local Alzheimer's Disease Foundation.
