Jerry L. Schafer, Sr.

Age 72, of Mineral City, passed away Sat. May 12, 2018.  He was born Feb. 24, 1946 in Dover, a son of the late Ernest and Irene (Ley) Schafer and was a life resident of Mineral City.  Jerry was retired from the Norton Company where he was a machine repairman.  He was a member of Mineral City Church of The Nazarene and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Brenda Sue Schafer, and a brother, Robert Schafer.  Jerry is survived by his wife, Freda S. Schafer, with whom he would have celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary on June 25th; two sons, Jerry Lee Schafer, Jr., and Terry (Crystal) Schafer, three grandchildren, Nicholas Schafer, Abigail (Matt) Williamson, and Jordan Homan, and two sisters, Marlene (Murvel) Burton and Norma Oliver.  Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Karma Burton officiating.  Friends may call Thursday 12-1 p.m. before the service.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville.  Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
