Obituary

Jerry L. Nicholson Age 75, of Magnolia, passed away Sunday morning, March 4, 2012, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Canton, a son of the late Charles "Pop" and Edna (Houghton) Nicholson, and was a life resident of Magnolia. Jerry was a 1954 graduate of Magnolia High School. He retired from Beaver Excavating Co., and previously worked many years for Gibbons & Grable Construction Co., where he was a carpenter. He also had served as Sexton of Magnolia Cemetery for several years. Jerry was a member of Carpenter's Local #69, and the Magnolia United Methodist Church. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren's ballgames and was "Grandpa Jerry" to many other children also. He worked at Magnolia Drag Strip for a number of years when it first opened and also coached Magnolia Little League baseball. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Nicholson. Survived by his wife, Carolyn J. Nicholson, with whom he celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary on Jan. 15th; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Stan Winters, of Magnolia, and Amy and Jeff Welker, of Waynesburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Kim Nicholson, of East Sparta, and Scott and Sheryl Nicholson, of Magnolia; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Ike (Charity) Winters and their children, Alison and Gracyn, Amy Winters, Tojh (Brooke) Nicholson and their children, Peyton and Trey, Kyle and Carli Nicholson, Tabitha and Luke Nicholson, Cody and Morgan Welker; one sister and brother-in-law, Nellie and James Weaver, of Loris, SC; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Donald and Shirley Nicholson, of Magnolia, and Hazel Nicholson, of Massillon; numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Bear. Services will be held Wed. at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Steven M. Smith officiating. Interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry's memory may be made to the Sandy Valley Athletic Booster Club, 5362 State Route 183, Magnolia, OH 44643.
