Jeanne L. Kate

Age 99, of Canton, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016, in her daughter's home.  She was born in Bloomingdale, OH, a daughter of the late Dr. Walter and Mina (Long) Lyle, was raised in Minerva, and had been a Canton resident since 1943.  Jeanne was a 1934 graduate of Minerva High School and 1938 graduate of the College of Wooster with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  She retired in 1973 from Perry Local Schools after 13 years' service, where she taught 9th grade at Edison Junior High, and previously taught two years at Minerva High School and four years at Sandy Valley High School.  Jeanne was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, D.A.R., Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Ohio Education Association, and the Stark County Retired Teachers Association.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Kenneth P. Kate, long-time Timken High School Basketball Coach, on July 15, 1984, and a sister and brother, Ruth Relph and Walter Lyle.  Survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bruce Kelly, of Waleska, GA, Nancy and Clifford Shaffer, of Massillon, and Joan and Kenneth Seemann, of West Palm Beach, FL; seven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, Amy (Ken) Szpindor,  Lt. Col. Matthew (Kelly) Edmonson and his children, Madyson, Emma, Jake and Luke, Bradley (Yuki) Barnes, Amanda Barnes, Reid (Tracy) Seemann, and their children, Austin and Tiffany, Kristy (Robert) Roth, and their children, Timothy, Thomas and Carly, and Carrik (Liz) Seemann.  Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Pastor C. David Morgan officiating.  Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park.  Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 10-11 a.m. before the service.
