Jay F. Jones
Age 90, of North Canton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016. He was born in Canton, a son of the late Jonathan T. and Nellie (Kirby) Jones, and was a life resident of this area. Jay was a 1945 graduate of Lehman High School, and retired in 1983 from Republic Steel – Berger Division, after 36 years' service, where he was a salesperson. He also sold real estate for the Florence Allen Real Estate Co., and auto insurance for the Kaufman Insurance Co. He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, which he served as an Elder and Deacon; Canton Lodge #60, F. & A.M. (formerly Lathrop #676); the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton; the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club; Lehman Alumni Association, and member and Past President of the Lehman Booster Club. He was really involved with the Canton-Akron Indians while they were in Canton, helping the players find places to stay, and driving them everywhere, including Manny Ramirez and Jose Hernandez. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Jacob and Virginia Clark. Jay is survived by his wife, Eileen R. Jones, with whom he celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary on May 19, 2016; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen and Ron Duplain, of Louisville, and Nancy Poparad, of Canton; two grandchildren and three great-grandsons, who were the love of his life and he absolutely adored them, Monica (Chris) Peters and their sons, twins Max and Mason, and Elliott, and Jay Poparad; and one niece, Marsha Granchi. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Sue Ann Schmidt officiating. Entombment will be in North Lawn Mausoleum. Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jay's memory may be made to either the Stark County Humane Society, PO Box 7077, Canton, OH 44705, or Camp Tuscazoar Foundation, Inc., PO Box 308, Zoarville, OH 44656-0308.
