James H. Thompson
Age 90, of Hillsdale, MI, formerly of Canton, passed away Thursday morning in Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born in Salem, OH, a son of the late Howard and Sarah Chase Thompson, resided in Hillsdale since 2000, previously residing in Canton most of his life. Jim was a graduate of Lehman High School. He retired in 1983 from United Bank, after 44 years service, where he was a Vice-President and Rotunda Branch Manager. Jim was a former long-time member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir many years. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and saw action in the South Pacific on Iwo Jima and Saipan. Preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Thompson, on Oct. 6, 2003, and a young sister, Bonnie Thompson. Survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Frank Steiner, of Hillsdale, MI; a son, Jeffrey Thompson, of New Mexico; two grandchildren and spouses, Andrew (Stephanie) Steiner, and Amanda (Brian) Chacon; and one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Jo Thompson, of Columbus, OH. Services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Snyder officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 1-2 p.m. before the service.
