Obituary

James L. Moffett Age 90, of Magnolia, passed away Thursday afternoon in Union Hospital in Dover. He was born in Canton, a son of the late John and Lillian Carnes Moffett, and was a life resident of the East Sparta area. Jim was a 1937 graduate of East Sparta High School. He was a self-employed Manufacturer's Representative for many years, and also previously worked as a Commercial Sales Representative for the Ohio Power Co. Jim was a member of Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church at the Crossroads in Sandyville; Caldwell Lodge #330, F. & A.M. in Bolivar; a Life Member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton; also a member of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta; the Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Antique Auto Club of America; and the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, Lake Erie Region. He had been elected and served on the Sandy Valley Board of Education and as a Sandy Township Trustee. Jim served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. Preceded in death by his wife of almost 68 years, Hazel M. (Howenstine) Moffett, on May 26, 2009, and a brother, Donald Moffett. Survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Robert Hunter, of Alliance; his son and daughter-in-law, John J. and Judith Moffett, of Ashland, OH; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and James Von Almen, of Lima, OH; four grandchildren, Julie Rine, of East Rochester, OH, Jodie Moffett, of Columbus, OH, Kyle Kocher, of Hartville, and Jeffrey Hunter, of Sunnyvale, CA; one great-granddaughter, Jamie Rine, of East Rochester. Services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church with Pastor John Maroni officiating, and Jim's son, Pastor John Moffett delivering a eulogy. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville. Friends may call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia and Monday 10-11 a.m. at the church.
