James E. Kerns

Age 86, of Westminster, SC, formerly Canton, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023.  He was born Dec. 15, 1936 in Marietta, OH, a son of the late Charles and Jeanette (Burton) Kerns, grew up in Marietta, and had been a Canton and Tampa, FL resident until going to Westminster. He had moved back to Ohio to be close to family. Jim was a 1953 graduate of Marietta High School and attended Marietta College for one year. Jim retired in 1999 after 23 years' service from the U. S. Postal Service in Tampa, FL, where he was a mail handler, and previously worked in the trucking industry for many years in Ohio. He was a born again saved Christian, and was a member and Trustee at Central Baptist Church, and a member of the Golden Sunshiners of the church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Pearl B. (Jacobs) Kerns, on Nov. 23, 2020, two grandchildren, two brothers and six sisters, Wanda, Robert, Edith, Raymond, Alice, Mary, Helen, and Judy. He was the last of nine children.

Jim is survived by three daughters and one son, Barbara (Tom) Putrow, Sara (Mick) Householder, Donna (Ed) Zamilski, and Henry Kerns; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens with Military Honors. There will be no visitation.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
