James Michael (Mike) Harper,
a big man with a big spirit, bigger opinions, and the biggest heart. He suddenly passed away in his Magnolia, Ohio home, with his family at his side, on November 21, 2022. He was born May 23, 1949, in Canton, Ohio. He grew up in the family shoe repair business, was a 1967 graduate of Lincoln High School and enlisted in U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving for 2 years. Mike worked 30 years and retired from Ameritech (Ohio Bell) phone company, and was a member of the Crossroads Restaurant daily round table.
He is survived in death by his wife, Sharon (Crowe) Harper. He is the loving father of Jillian (Brian) Berkshire and Jaleen Harper. Adoring grandfather of Colton and Carter Berkshire. Brother of L. Marty (Marge) Harper, Diane Price, Donna (Greg) Cole, Bob Harper, and Patrick Harper. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Lauren Martin Harper, Martha (Lewis)Baker, Helen (Elder) Harper, sister Darlene Christian, grandson Dickey Berkshire and many great friends including but not limited to, Phillip Snyder, Robert (Bob) Ronske, and John Weisbord.
Mike will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his love of family, his humble and quite generosity, ability to listen during a time of need, huge hugs, distinct whistle, love of dogs, patriotism, and his relentless need to be right, always.
His is loved and will be missed by many.
Friends and family may pay their respects at the Finefrock- Gordon Funeral Home at 266 N. Main St, Magnolia, Ohio 44643 on Friday Dec 2nd from 4-7pm. Services will follow calling hours at 7pm in the funeral home. The family will also hold a Celebration of Life at a later time. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike's name may be made to: Quad Ambulance District, 6930 Minerva Rd.
