Obituary

JAMES LOUIS BAHRENBURG June 9, 1939 – August 6, 2025

James Louis Bahrenburg, 86, of Wheat Ridge Colorado died August 6, 2025 due to complications from cancer. Mr. Bahrenburg was born June 9, 1939 in Canton, OH to Alene S. and Dr. James H. Bahrenburg. In Canton he attended Belle Stone and Mason Schools, and graduated in 1957 from Lehman High School. He attended Westminster College in Pennsylvania, and graduated in 1961 from Miami University in Ohio. He relocated to Colorado to attend graduate school at Colorado University in Boulder – due in part to its proximity to Yellowstone Park, where he worked many summers. In 1962 he began teaching Spanish and French in Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado, from which he retired in 1993. He was a member of the Buick Club of America, the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, the Cadillac/La Salle Club, and was a Son of the American Revolution through his paternal grandmother. Mr. Bahrenburg's greatest joys were driving each of his collection of beautiful classic automobiles as often as he could, and he was a generous supporter and an active volunteer for over 12 years at the Forney Museum of Transportation in Denver. He was also a savior of elderly dogs, being particularly fond of West Highland Terriers. Over the past several decades he rescued dozens of senior dogs from local shelters, providing a loving home to each needy dog. Mr. Bahrenburg is survived by his niece, Linda Fragale in Virginia, his nephew, Scott Conger in Wyoming, brother-in-law Dick Conger in Tennessee, one cousin, some close Colorado friends and his Schnauzer 'Pepper' and Poodle 'Mattie'. He is to be buried with his parents in North Lawn Cemetery in Canton, Ohio. At his request, no services are planned.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Forney Museum of Transportation, 4303 Brighton Blvd., Denver, CO 80216, www.forneymuseum.org: or to Vintage Dog Rescue, 19 N. Ranch Road, Littleton, CO 80217.  Condolences may be left at: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com.
