Isabel F. Seffens
Age 89, of Canton, passed away Sat. evening in St. Joseph Care Center. She was born in Massillon, a daughter of the late George W. and Vera Gould Fischer, and had been a Canton resident since 1938. Isabel was a 1937 graduate of Massillon Washington High School and a graduate of Kent State University with a Mathematics Degree in Education, and an advanced Degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was a retired employee of Pella Windows, and prior to that had been a long-time employee of Janson Industries where she was Comptroller. Previously she taught Mathematics at Perry High School where she assisted in writing the words to the Perry Alma Mater. Isabel was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Massillon, and had served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Preceded in death by Lt. General Jay W. Seffens, in 1963, and her sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Virgil Smith. Survived by her son, Dr. David M. Seffens, with whom she resided; nieces and nephews including Barbara L. Benner, who was very close to her aunt Isabel, Virgil R. Smith, Jr., Gregory G. Smith, and Anne Mancini. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Massillon with The Rev. Henry G. Harris officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery with full Military Honors by Massillon American Legion Post #221. There will be no calling hours. The body will lie in State at the church from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Isabel's memory may be made to the Massillon Alumni Scholarship Fund, Class of 1937. Her family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. John Humphrey, Dr. Robert Sliman, Dr. Gilbert Rawley, and St. Joseph Care Center for the love and wonderful care they gave to Isabel.
