A. Irene Broad Age 90, of East Sparta, passed away Sunday morning in Chapel Hill Retirement Community. She was born in East Sparta, a daughter of the late Chalmer and Edna Booth Quillen, and resided there for 85 years before moving to Chapel Hill in 2006. Irene was a former employee of the U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. and also worked at the Hoover Co. during World War II. She was a member of East Sparta Christian Church, East Sparta Woman's Club, the Auxiliary of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244, and was active in various other clubs and community projects for many years. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Virgil Broad, on Feb. 15, 2003, three brothers and two sisters, Raymond, Otmer, and Harold Quillen, Evelyn Walter, and Donna Justice. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Lorraine Broad, of North Canton; two granddaughters, Cheryl (Mike) Hamilton and Renee Broad, all of Columbus; one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Lowell Harris, of East Sparta. Services will be conducted Sat., Dec. 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Jack Wingate officiating. Interment in East Sparta Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. and Sat. one hour before the service. There also will be a Memorial Service at Chapel Hill Retirement Community on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev.
