Hurshel D. Smith

Age 72, of Magnolia, passed away Monday, July 20, 2015, in Aultman Compassionate Care Center.  He was born in Canton, a son of the late Hurshel and Leon "Lee" (Cross) Smith, and had been a Magnolia resident since 1984.  Hursh retired from The Timken Company after 31 years service, where he was a precision grinder in Dept. 59. He also owned and operated Wood Creations by Hursh for a number of years.  He was a very creative segmented wood turner, and received numerous awards for his work at Fine Art Fine Craft Exhibitions.  Hursh served in the U. S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War.  He was a member of Golden Lodge #1123 United Steelworkers of America, AFL-CIO.  He loved flying and had his commercial instrument rating.  But he especially loved his many dogs over the years.  He is survived by his wife, Toni A. Smith, with whom he celebrated their 33rd Wedding Anniversary on Nov. 23, 2014; one daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Mark Nageotte, of Farwell, MI; one son and daughter-in-law, Shaun and Jennifer Smith, of Massillon; a step-daughter and her husband, Paulette and Mark Stidd, of North Canton; five grandchildren, Carrie's children, Ryan, Andrew, and Morgan Coney, and Shaun's children, Ethan and Corrin Smith; one brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Donna Smith, of Canton.  Services will be held Sat. at 10:30 a.m in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia  with Pastor Peggy Garner officiating.  Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.  Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hursh's memory may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care Center, 2821 Woodlawn Ave, NW, Canton, OH 44708.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
