Obituary

Age 92, a resident of the Canton Christian Home, passed away there quietly in her sleep Sat., August 16, 2014.  She was born in Burgettstown, PA, a daughter of the late Bruce and Minnie (Ruth) McNinch, and had been a Canton resident since 1956.  As a child they moved to the family farm near Harlem Springs, OH, with Bruce and Hilda's older brothers, Ralph and George driving the livestock overland.  Her childhood was spent working on the farm and attending a one room schoolhouse with her twin Wilda and younger sisters, Ruth and Juanita.  Hilda contributed to the war effort by working in a plastics factory.  She was a 1941 graduate of Carrollton High School, and after the war Hilda graduated from Muskingum College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  After a brief stint teaching, she found her career in health care.  She retired in 1987 from Timken Mercy Medical Center, after 41 years service, where she was a Medical Technologist in charge of the Hematology Dept.  Hilda was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and the Canton Garden Club.  She and her husband, Homer, were avid dancers, and first met at a dance in rural Ohio, and after their marriage initially lived in Minerva and settled in Canton in 1956. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Wilda, Ruth, George and Ralph McNinch.  Survived by her husband, Homer Draher, with whom she celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary on Dec. 31, 2013; one daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Jim Hermiller, of Brownsburg, IN; one son and daughter-in-law, Allen Draher and Jennie Wyatt, and three granddaughters, Gracious, Siena Marie, and Evelyn, all of Seattle, WA; one sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Walter Legge, of Lebanon, OH.  Services will be held Sat. at 2 p.m. in the Canton Christian Home with Chaplain Ron Iwanusa officiating.  Interment in North Lawn Cemetery.  Friends may call Sat. at the Christian Home from 1-2 p.m. before the service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hilda's memory may be made to the Canton Christian Home, 2550 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44709, or Calvary Presbyterian Church 1525 Shorb Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44702.  The Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
