Helen L. Pryse
Age 90, of Canton, passed on peacefully to her special place in glory on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, surrounded by her family that loves her so much. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Darlene Pryse, of Massillon; daughter, Kathleen Pryse Michaels, of Lawrenceburg, IN; five grandsons, George III, Nathan, Zachary, and Benjamin (Melanie) Michaels, and Robbie Pryse; her remaining sister, Gloria Fakult, of Painesville, OH; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bob Pryse, on Nov. 14, 2009, and her beloved sisters, Mary Gennett, Anna Groner, Rose Francis, Lena Campanelli, and Minnie Simile, and brothers, Earl and Warren Saccucci, and a son-in-law, George Michaels II. She also left many special friends behind, who will surely miss her unforgettable smile. Helen was born in Canton, OH, in Nov. 12, 1920, to her late Italian immigrant parents, John and Adele (Paesano) Saccucci. She graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 1938. In addition to being a homemaker, Helen was employed at The Timken Co., Dueble's Jewelry Store, United Way, Consumer Credit Counseling, and at age 80 was hired to work for a local law firm. Helen was a faithful member and pillar of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, singing in the choir, serving as Sunday school teacher assistant, volunteering in the Next to New Shop, and serving in the Altar Guild. Being self-taught in sign language, she was very instrumental in growing the church's attendance to those in the non-hearing community, and delivered the church service to a large group with her hands and her heart. Her love of music, playing the piano, and singing were lifelong passions that continued in later years with her singing in the Harmony Makers chorale group that sang at many local care facilities. During her stay at Nobles Pond she began to play the piano again and she performed with the Bell Choir, no only playing her part, but ever so gracefully singing the last song with her hands in sign language, as a finale to the performance. She was never one to idly sit by and watch the world go by. She was always ready to go, especially if it included family activities. Even in her later years she would spend all day in the in the family boat on Salt Fork Lake and help prepare the evening meal at the camper at the end of the day before a not-always-so-friendly game of Euchre. Because of her physical decline and special care needs, she had to leave her home and resided the last few years at Nobles Pond. It did not take long for Helen's endearing personality to permeate the staff and other residents of Nobles Pond. Even in her final moments, Helen's selfless and unwavering devotion to her family and concerns for others beamed from her eyes. Always quick with a smile that would uplift those who were down in spirit....a smile that will live on in the hearts of many whose lives she touched. A private burial ceremony will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. Visitation and Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Oct. 21 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10 a.m. with the Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 425 Cleveland Ave. SW, PO Box 21333, Canton, OH 44701-1333. The family would like to thank Helen's "Special Angels", the nurses, aides, and other caregivers at Nobles Pond for the genuine compassion and love they extended toward Helen's care and well being.
