Helen E. Gilmore,

93, passed away in her home in North Canton on June 27, 2025. Helen was the rock of the Gilmore family, always ready to offer her care, support, and a ferocious combination of kindness, loyalty, and love — and, tough love, whenever it was necessary. She showed us all what it meant to be warm, engaging, funny, compassionate, adventurous, and unbelievably tough. She was straightforward and no-nonsense, and if she loved you, you could feel it, down to your bones. Helen loved her family, Buckeye football, donut cakes, belly laughs, big dogs, Phantom of the Opera, an occasional glass of wine, a nice dinner out, and telling tales of the many adventures she shared with her beloved husband, Brooks, who she lost in 2011 after 55 years of marriage. Helen taught us, through her life, what it meant to always put family first. She probably could never imagine the countless ways she has influenced each of us, but we will carry her with us always, and we will miss her forever. Helen is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Joseph Woofter, of North Canton; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Bruce Gilmore, of North Canton, Mark Gilmore, of Canton, and Douglas and Amy Gilmore, of Worthington, OH; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Christina and Brandon "Blue" Woofter, Grant Gilmore and Rachel (Logan) Crawfis, Rick (Julie) Gilmore and their daughter, Hannah, and Brooks Christian (Kate) Gilmore. The family would like to express its sincere thanks to Mark Gilmore, who cared for Helen in her home throughout her illness and was with her when she passed.
