Harold W. Swartz
Age 89, of Mineral City, passed away Monday morning in Hennis Care Centre in Dover. He was born in Canton, a son of the late William and Gertrude (Sponseller) Swartz, and had been a resident of the Mineral City area since 1948. Harold was a 1948 graduate of Canton South High School. He worked at The Timken Co. during World War II, and then was employed at E. W. Bliss Co., where he was a machinist, and made end rocket pieces for the minute man rockets, torpedo doors for the George Washington submarine, and catapult pieces for the Forrestal Air Craft Carrier. Then for 14 years he was head bus mechanic for Tusky Valley Local Schools. During all these years of working, he was a dedicated self-employed farmer, and was extremely resourceful and built many machines that were helpful on his farm. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Zoarville. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Opal E. Swartz, on June 13, 2008, and a brother, Virgil Swartz. Survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Judy Swartz, of Canton; three grandchildren, Christopher, Kimberly, and Jennifer Swartz; four great-grandchildren, Catera, Michael, Ethan, and Carley. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Jeffrey H. Brown officiating. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville.
