Obituary

Harold L. Sponaugle Age 85, of Mineral City, passed away Monday afternoon in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hendricks, WV, a son of the late Bryan and Delvie (Carr) Sponaugle, and resided in Mineral City since 1966. Harold was a 1947 graduate of Parsons, WV High School. He was a lifelong farmer and outdoorsman and retired in 1990 from Republic Steel in Canton, after 42 years service, where he was a first helper in the Melt Shop. Harold was an avid hunter, enjoyed traveling, and could often be found on his front porch with his wife Barb visiting with his large family and many friends. He was a member of the Hey-Jacks Sportsman Club, and Carr-Bailey American Legion Post #519 in Mineral City. Harold served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Sue, daughter, Regina Sponaugle, son, Michael Sponaugle, grandson, Colten Hilty, daughter-in-law, Jill Sponaugle, two brothers, Jim and Cleon Sponaugle, and two sisters, Lucy Tingler and Martha Wetzel. Survived by his wife, Barbara J. Sponaugle, with whom he celebrated their 34th Wedding Anniversary on Feb. 9th; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Darrell Weisen, and Rhonda and Eric Hilty; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Dianna Sponaugle, Robert and Linda Sponaugle, and John and Valerie Sponaugle; a step-son, Scott Austin; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Lewis and Reve Sponaugle, Butch and Dottie Sponaugle, and Hambone Mason; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Wilda Sponaugle, Belle Hardy, and Naomi and Harry Lambert; two brothers-in-law, Fred Simmons and Timothy Ungurean, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Debbie and Richard Ward, and a sister-in-law, Joann Sponaugle. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Mark Gross officiating. Interment in German Cemetery.
