Gloria M. Fearn
Age 78, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2011, in Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Canton, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Mildred Bracken Fearn, and was a life resident. Gloria was a 1951 graduate of Lehman High School. She retired in 1982 from Ohio Bell, after 30 years service, where she worked in various departments including the employment office, and was responsible for hiring many people, the Traffic Department, and also was a foreman in non-traditional management. She also owned the 30th Street Fruit Stand and had worked at the Plant Hut on Applegrove for 17 years. Gloria was a member of the Ohio Bell Pioneers, member and President of the Telephone Employees Credit Union, Union Steward of the CWA, also a member of the NAACP, and the Canton Urban League. She enjoyed sports and had coached Little League Baseball and girls softball in Canton and Massillon. She also played for a girls and women's slow-pitch softball team a number of years. Gloria was an avid fisherman and had a boat on Leesville Lake for many years. She was an extraordinary reader of many different books with varied interests. She helped many people with financial and personal advice. Gloria was an avid traveler and spent many winters in California, but also enjoyed Hawaii, Florida, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Alaska. Her home was a revolving door for family and friends who needed a place to stay at any time. Gloria was a genealogist and knew all about the farms where her family settled in the Canton and Waco areas, dating to the Civil War. Preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, infant Kenneth Fearn, Jr., Donald Fearn and Beverly Nichols Mohr, and a niece, Mildred (Mohr) Munkirs. Survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Robin and Mary Fearn, of Brandon, FL; nieces and nephews, Susan Miller, of Canton, David (Linda) Miller, of Minerva, Margie (Jay) Waliga, of Tallmadge, OH, David Fearn, of Cleveland Heights, OH, Andrew Fearn, of Pearland, TX, and Lee Allen (Lisa) Fearn, of Florida; great nieces and nephews, Debbie (Anthony) Caravella, and Gene Munkirs, Jr., all of Kansas City, MO, Beverly (David) Cline, of Kingsville, MO, Raymond (Eileen) Miller, of Canton, and Carol (Denny) Pittson, of Paris, OH; numerous great-great-nieces and nephews, and an extended family of cousins and kin, and is also dearly loved by many friends. Services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with her niece, Margie Waliga officiating. Private interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
