Gloria J. Charton,
age 97, of the Richville, Bolivar, and Magnolia areas, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026.
She was born on June 7, 1929, in Mineral City, a daughter of the late Cleo and Bernice (McCreery) Miller. Gloria was a 1947 graduate of East Sparta High School, a member of Richville United Church of Christ, and retired from Perry High School where she worked in the cafeteria. Gloria’s character was marked by her unrelenting smile and laughter, as well as her selflessness. She had a gift for brightening anyone’s day through conversation, her amazing cooking, and the delicious treats she brought everywhere.
Survived by two sons, Larry (Sylvia) Charton, and Gary (Tracy) Charton. She was the proud grandmother of Gary and Spencer Charton. Survived also by two brothers, Vance (Sandra) Carnes, Darrell (Bonnie) Carnes, and one sister Maureen “Tiny” (Jack) Ott. Preceded in death by her husband, George, her longtime companion, Harold Gill, her sister Karen Fedder, and five brothers, Neil Carnes, Ronnie Carnes, Chuck Miller, Robert Miller, and Cleo “Sonny” Miller.
