May 22, 1931 – May 17, 2015
Gladys Virginia (Kaufman) Elliott
Age 83, a resident of Mayfield Manor in Canton, OH, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 17, 2015, surrounded by her loving family after a series of health problems. She was born May 22, 1931 in Holmes County, OH, a daughter of the late John and Ida Pearl (Darr) Kaufman, where she lived in several communities as a child. Gladys lived in Stark County from 1950-1969, Mahoning County 1970-2001, and returned to Stark County in 2002. She was a very proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a strong heritage in farming, and always grew a garden. Gladys was a fantastic cook and an excellent baker. She has shared her strong faith in God and her Savior Jesus Christ with her children and they did with their children. She was baptized and married at the Lutheran Church in Loudonville, but also enjoyed worshipping at the United Presbyterian Church in Struthers, Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon, and the services provided at Mayfield Manor in Canton. Gladys appreciated all the kind people in her church families. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by an infant son, Clarence Arthur Elliott, her ex-husband, Arthur M. Elliott, Jr., all of her 13 brothers and sisters, one nephew, and one great-niece. Gladys is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria & Fred Gordon, of Waynesburg, Charlotte & Steve Wallace, of Salem, OH, and Virginia Cole, of Canton; one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Joyce Elliott, of Portland, TX; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Charlie) Miller, Nicole (Jim) Coy, Jason (Jill) Gordon, Joshua (Katelyn) Gordon, Levi Perrenoud, Ashley Elliott, Emily Elliott, and two step-grandchildren, Heather (Ron) Evans and Holly (Nick) McGirr; ten great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Her greatest legacy is her family and the faith she instilled in them. She will be fondly remembered for her strength, courage, and homemade sweets. Calling hours will be held Friday 6-8 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home and Sat. 10-11 a.m. at the church before the service. A Celebration of her Life will be held Sat. at 11 a.m. in Central Presbyterian Church, 47 2nd St. NE, Massillon, with Pastor Larry Lalama officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Union Cemetery in Perrysvile, OH. Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
