Obituary

George R. Pyle Age 77, of Canton, passed away Thursday , July 19, 2012, in Aultman Compassionate Care. He was born in Canton, a son of the late Ernest and Ethel (Bowland) Pyle, and was a life resident. George was a 1953 graduate of McKinley High School, a 1983 graduate of Malone University with a Degree in Psychology, and received a Masters Degree in Education from Kent State University. He was the retired owner of Smith's Homemade Candies, and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. George was a life member of the Hines Blind Education Center Alumni Association, a life member of the Blinded Veterans Association, and was Past President of the Ohio Regional Group, life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #50, member of the American Council of the Blind, member and Past President of the former Willowbrook Lions Club, and now a member of Jackson Township Lions Club, also a member of the Canton Ex-Newboys Association, the McKinley High School Alumni Association, the Bulldog Athletic Association, and the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club. George was a 17 year volunteer at the V.A. Clinic, and was editor of "The Eye Opener" newsletter, a monthly publication of the Akron-Canton Blind Veterans Support Group for21 years. His hobbies included playing golf, reading and fishing. At 65, he began to regularly attend the annual Winter Sports Clinic, an event for disabled veterans in Colorado, where he learned to both downhill and cross country ski. More recently he attended Pegasus Farm in Louisville to participate in the Veterans Therapeutic Riding Program. Preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Pyle. Survived by his wife, Jo A. Pyle, with whom he would have celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary on Nov. 25, 2012; two daughters and a son-in-law, Amy Pyle, of Loveland, OH, and Risa and Michael Anderson, of New York City, NY; grand-dogs, Ziggy, Sadie, and Snapeling. Friends may call Wed. 6-8 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home. Interment will be private for the family.
