July 14, 1918 – November 1, 2014
George Maxwell Davidson, Jr.,
Age 96, of North Canton, went home to be with the Lord on Sat., Nov. 1, 2014. He was born in West Lafayette, OH, a son of the late George Maxwell and Dora (Brothers) Davidson, Sr., and had been a Canton resident most of his life. George was a 1936 graduate of McKinley High School and also a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University. He attended the University of Michigan Law School, and graduated from Case-Western Reserve Law School. He established a successful Law Practice in downtown Canton in 1949, retiring in 1990. George had served as a Canton City Councilman in Ward 11, Canton City Solicitor, Canton Police Prosecutor, and as a member of the Civil Service Commission of Ohio. His memberships included the Toastmasters, Onion Club, Canton Lions Club, the Canton Club, American Legion Post #44, a 65 year member of Canton Lodge #60, F. & A.M., the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, Canton Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient, Oakwood Country Club, Canton Retired Executives, and the Stark County and Ohio Bar Associations. He currently was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church and their Men's Bible Study. He previously was a long-time member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher, and led many special committees, including the Calvary Building Committee. He was a long-time volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Stark and Carroll Counties, for which he received the Golden Hammer Award. George served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict. George will be remembered for his quick wit and words of encouragement, which he freely offered until his last day. He was kind and patient. He was an avid reader and intellectual, always curious and wanting to learn more. He applied his organizational skills and his compassion when he started the Scali Scholarship Fund and when he served as an arbitrator on many occasions. With his never ending enthusiasm and energy we expected him to live forever. He continued to inspire those around him daily, especially in the later years. His family will miss his positive attitude and great love.
