Gary L. Provance
Age 63, of Magnolia, passed away suddenly Friday evening in Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Canton, a son of Jean Dillehay Boyd and step-father Cleo Boyd of Sandyville, and the late Lt. Colonel Leonard W. Provance, and was a life resident of the Sandy Valley area. Gary was a 1965 graduate of Sandy Valley High School, where he played basketball, and is still the all-time career scoring leader of the high school. He has been a 17 year employee of Larry Murphy Dump Truck Service, where he was Sales Executive. Gary was a member of Magnolia United Methodist Church and Malvern American Legion Post #375. He loved being with his grandchildren and was an avid Ohio State fan. Gary served with the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. Preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Kathleen A. Provance, on Aug. 18, 1993, and two brothers, Rick and Gene Boyd. Surviving besides his mother and step-father, is his daughter, Ashley Provance, and her fiance, Chris Palmer, of Magnolia; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg Provance, of Canton, Grant and Emily Provance, of Bolivar, and Grady Provance, of the home; his beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Nicole, and Gage Provance; his sister and brother-in-law, Judith and George DiSabito, of New Philadelphia; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and JoAnn Boyd, of Newton, NJ; a step-sister and her husband, Susan and Eddie Keelan, of Homosassa, FL; and a sister-in-law, Linda Boyd, of Waynesburg. Services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Fr. Joseph Zamary officiating. Interment in Magnolia Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 of East Sparta. Friends may call Wed. 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gary's memory may be made to Team Provance, c/o The Bank of Magnolia, for the benefit of his grandchildren.
