Rev. Evelyn M. Weaver

Age 99, of Canton, passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 2021.  She was born April 27, 1922 in Maple Grove, Seneca County, OH, a daughter of the late Archie and Hazel (Day) Weaver, and had been a Canton resident since 1996, previously residing in Elyria, Sandyville, and Crestline.  Evelyn was a 1940 graduate of Lorain High School, a 1945 graduate of Scarritt College in Nashville, TN, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from College of The Pacific in Stocton, CA, and a Masters Degree in Education in 1968 from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanstan, IL.  Evelyn received a Masters Degree in Theology in 1976 from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, OH, and was ordained June 26, 1976.

Evelyn was commissioned in 1945 as a Deaconess for the Board of Global Ministries, and served as a Missionary in Pakistan from 1952-54.  She served Pastorates at Sandyville/Asbury United Methodist Church from 1976-80, and then at Crestline United Methodist Church from 1980-86, when she retired.  Following her retirement Rev. Weaver assisted at First United Methodist Church in Elyria, and also at Elyria United Methodist Village as Chaplain.  Now a member of New Vision United Church of Christ, she previously was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in North Canton and Trinity United Church of Christ in Canal Fulton.  Evelyn was a member of the East Ohio United Methodist Conference, Planned Parenthood of Stark County, the National Association of Women, and the Degrees of Freedom Women's Retreat Center in West Salem, OH.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers, Marjorie James, Marian Cutcher, Robert Weaver, Dale Weaver, and Archie Weaver, Jr.  She is survived by her long-time companion, Susan McCollum, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Sat., Oct. 9, 2021 at 1 p.m. in New Vision United Church of Christ, 3129 Market Ave. N, Canton, OH 44714, with Rev. Anissa Glaser-Bacon officiating.  Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Sat. from 12-1 p.m.  Interment will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain, OH following cremation.  For Covid safety the windows in the church will be open, as well as facial covering is optional.  Condolences may be sent to: www.gordonfuneralhomes.com
