Elizabeth J. Zurfley
Age 84, of Mineral City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, in Aultman Hospital. She was born in Baltimore, MD, a daughter of the late James and Mary (Mathey) Labus, and had been a Mineral City resident most of her life. Elizabeth was a 1945 graduate of Mineral City High School. She retired in 1992 from The Timken Co., after over 25 years service, where she was a dispatcher. Previously she worked at TRW and the U.S. Ceramic Tile Co. in East Sparta. Elizabeth and her husband had owned and operated a Drug Store in Mineral City for a number of years. She loved to cook and bake cookies,
and every Sunday the family would gather for a big dinner together. She also was known to be feisty and for her special yodel to let everyone know dinner was ready. Elizabeth made sure the grandkids got to all their ball practices and any activity they were involved in, and every summer enrolled them in any Bible School that was available. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Walter E. Zurfley, on June 5, 2001. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Dave Walton, of Mineral City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Jean Zurfley, of Dover, and Jim and Patty Zurfley, of Mineral City; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene "Bud" and Greta Labus, of Marietta, GA; she dearly loved her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and enjoyed singing to them while holding them when they were small. Services will be held Wed. at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Mark Gross officiating. Interment in German Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
