Eleanor A. Slawson
Age 91, of North Canton, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024. She was born December 22, 1932 in Middlebranch, OH, a daughter of the late Michael and Bertha (Yannone) Mareno, and was a life resident of the Canton area. Eleanor was a 1950 graduate of Middlebranch High School. She was a retired thirty-year employee of the Hoover Co. She was a member of the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist. Eleanor was an avid bowler and gambler, and was known as Keno Lady for her fantasy football league. She also enjoyed going to any casino with Pam. She peacefully fell asleep watching her favorite channel, the tennis channel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Harold "Howdy" Slawson, three brothers and three sisters, Robert, Paul, and Richard Mareno, Lucille Anthony, Dolores Clark, and Janice Haswell. Eleanor is survived by her two daughters and one son, Pamela (Ted) Lazarites, Becky (Spencer) Gordon, and James "Kim" (Susan) Slawson; she also is survived by her greatest joys in life, her grandchildren, Courtney (Scott) Snyder, Philip Slawson, and Ally (David) Rowe, and her great-grandsons, Logan and Lane; her sister, Patricia (Richard) Brankel; a sister-in-law, Neda Mareno; and many nieces and nephews. She was loved by everyone she met, especially her apartment family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist with the Very Reverend Dr. David M. Misbrener – Rector, officiating. Friends may call Monday 5-7 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
