Edward F. "Ed" McDade
Age 94, a resident of the House of Loreto for the past six years, where he passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015. He was born in East Sparta, a son of the late Okey and Cressa (Gill) McDade, and resided in the East Sparta/Magnolia area all his life until going to Canton in July of 2008. Ed proudly served in the U. S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II as a Medic. He retired from The Timken Company in 1981 after 32 years of service. Ed also was a member of Isaac L. Kinney American Legion Post #244 in East Sparta. At his farm in Magnolia, which he purchased in 1955, Ed enjoyed his many farming duties. His many gifts of service to the community included sharpening saws, fixing lawnmowers, and repairing numerous other items for everyone who would ask for his assistance. Ed's favorite hobby was working and helping other people. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara (Bailey) McDade, a sister, Mary Alice McDade, two brothers, Paul and Andy McDade, and sisters-in-law Marge and Inez McDade. Survived by his wife, Doris McDade, with whom he celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary on Jan. 13, 2015; three step-children, Judy Sickafoose (Harry) Mitchell, Joan Bankert, and Darrell Moyer; sister-in-law, Hope McDade; four brothers, Homer (Jean) McDade, Walter McDade, Jack (Terrace) McDade, and Glen (Pat) McDade; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Pastor Jeff Franks officiating. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery in Sandyville with Full Military Honors. Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m. and also one hour before the service on Tuesday. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the loving care he was provided at the House of Loreto.
